The Congress pays tribute to Hilde Zach

18.01.2011 - Hilde Zach, former Mayor of Innsbruck and long-serving member of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, passed away on Saturday 15 January 2011.

“From her arrival in the Congress in 2004, Mrs Zach quickly made her mark, serving both as Chair of the Culture and Education Committee and as Congress Vice-President. She was a faithful and committed member of our Assembly, who impressed her colleagues not only by her organisational skills but by her constant enthusiasm,'' stated Keith Whitmore, President of the Congress, in a letter addressed to the City of Innsbruck.

It was an honour to have worked with Mrs Zach, whose dedication and unswerving energy were an example to us all.  She was a remarkable woman, a pillar of the Congress. Our thoughts go to her family and colleagues”, said Jean-Claude Frécon, President of the Chamber of Local Authorities, expressing his condolences.

“Hilde Zach was an outstanding politician, one of the most important mayors that Innsbruck has had. She was a driving force for the modernisation and reform of the city. In the same dynamic and altruistic way she contributed to the aims of the Congress, where she held several important mandates”, underlined Herwig Van Staa.

The Congress presidency has sent letters of condolence to her family and to the city of Innsbruck. Gaye Doganoglu, Vice-President, will represent the Congress at the funeral, which will take place on 21 January 2011, at 1 p.m,, Cathedral of St. Jacob, Innsbruck, Austria.
