Report by Poland on events organised under the Polish Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe –
Second seminar of European Education Ministers on “Teaching remembrance through cultural heritage” (Cracow, 4–6 May 2005)
1. took note of the declaration adopted by the second seminar of European Education Ministers “Teaching remembrance through cultural heritage” (Cracow, 4-6 May 2005), as it appears in CM/Inf(2005)35 and of the oral report made by the Polish delegation at their 929th meeting of the Ministers' Deputies (8 June 2005);
2. agreed to transmit the declaration to the Steering Committee for Education (CD-ED), the Steering Committee for Higher Education and Research (CD-ESR) and the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), for information;
3. welcomed the proposed establishment at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum of an education centre to develop the teaching of remembrance and invited the centre to co-operate closely with the Council of Europe;
4. instructed their Rapporteur Group on Education, Culture, Sport, Youth and Environment (GR-C) to examine the proposals for future Council of Europe action put forward in the declaration.
