THE PALME D’OR GOES TO A EURIMAGES-SUPPORTED FILM!

STRASBOURG, 28.05.2017 – The Jury of the 70th Cannes Film Festival chaired by Pedro Almodovar has awarded the Palme d’Or to the Eurimages-supported film The Square by Ruben Östlund, a co-production between Sweden, Germany and France.

In addition to the 9th Palme d’Or after Winter Sleep by Nuri Bilge Ceylan in 2014, the Eurimages Fund sees its selection choices rewarded Jury Prize for Nelyubov (Loveless) – Russia, France, Germany, Belgium by Andrey Zvyagintsev, also supported by Eurimages.

The Eurimages Fund is delighted with these award-winners which pay tribute to international co-productions: through these films, the Fund demonstrates its commitment to fostering cinematographic creativity and once again confirms the strength of the Eurimages label.

EURIMAGES is a support fund for cinema co-production, theatrical distribution and exhibition established by the Council of Europe in 1988.  Since its creation, it has supported 1834 European co-productions for a total amount of approximately €545 million.
