Meeting of the Congress Governance Committee

The members of the Governance Committee of the Congress met in Strasbourg on Tuesday 20 October 2015, during the 29th Congress Session. They elected a new Chair: Marie-Madeleine Mialot Muller (France, SOC), Vice-President of the Centre regional council. "I am very proud to have been elected and I would like to reiterate my keen interest in the Governance Committee, which, for me, is a key component of democracy", she stated. Philippe Leuba (Switzerland, ILDG), Vaud Canton state councillor, has also being elected as 5th vice-chair.

At the opening of the meeting, The Secretary General of the Congress, Andreas Kiefer, addressed the committee members and asked for their input in drawing up the priorities for the Congress for the next four years. He also emphasised the cooperation activities of the Congress, pointing out that its work did not stop at adopting reports.

Further on the agenda were also the consideration of reports on autonomy of borders in a changing Europe , of Karl-Heinz Lambertz (Belgium, SOC), and the " toolbox " to Pedagogical use local elected at the organization of intercultural and interfaith activities , presented by Bert Bouwmeester (Netherlands , ILDG ), which were approved for adoption by the Congress at its 30th Session in March 2016. Other reports under preparation, on "good governance of metropolitan territories ", " Preventing corruption and promote public ethics at local and regional level " and " the integration of a gender perspective in the budget process " were discussed.
