    Meeting report
    (Strasbourg, 15 October 2001)

    ———————————————

    1. State of preparation of the 769th (17 October 2001), 770th (24 October 2001) and 771st (31 October 2001) meetings of the Ministers’ Deputies

The Bureau took note of the state of preparation of the 769th (17 October 2001), 770th (24 October 2001) and 771st meetings of the Ministers’ Deputies.

Regarding the 769th meeting, the Bureau noted that the following item should be added to the agenda:

10.6 Multidisciplinary Group on Terrorism (GMT) – Draft terms of reference

Regarding the 771st meeting, the Bureau noted that the following item should be removed from the agenda:

2.3 Relations between the Council of Europe and the European Union – Preparation of the 17th Quadripartite meeting (Strasbourg, 7 November 2001).

    2. Distribution of draft agendas of Ministers’ Deputies’ meetings

The Bureau recommended that the distribution of too many successive paper versions of draft agendas of the Ministers’ Deputies’ meetings should be avoided. It suggested that draft agendas should be regularly updated on the Committee of Ministers’ website and that only one paper copy should be published just before the meeting with the most up-to-date information possible.

    3. Use of the Foyer of the Committee of Ministers

The Bureau was informed of the proposed dates for the exhibition on the tricentennial of Saint Petersburg planned for 2002 by the delegation of the Russian Federation, to which the Deputies had already agreed in principle at their 762nd meeting (5 September 2001).

The Bureau noted that this exhibition was scheduled for 23 to 27 September 2002 and passed on this information to the Committee of Ministers.

The Bureau had also received a request from the Polish delegation to hold the official opening ceremony of its exhibition on “Difficult way to democracy in Poland”, scheduled for 7 to 16 November 2001 (cf. CM/Bur/Del(2001)7), on Thursday 8 November 2001.

The Bureau recommended that the ceremony should take place either at 8.15 a.m. on Thursday before the Joint Committee meeting or on Thursday afternoon at 3.45 before the Ministers’ Deputies’ exchange of views with the Lithuanian Minister for Foreign Affairs.
