Young local leaders from Ukraine visit Strasbourg to exchange views on local governance

30.10.2014 - The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe invites for a study visit entitled “Fostering democratic development in Ukraine at the grassroots level: Empowering young local leaders” 20 Ukrainian young local leaders to Strasbourg from 3 to 6 November 2014.

The visit aims to provide participants with inspiration and practical advice for further developing local and regional democracy in Ukraine and with skills and qualifications for a more effective management of local policies and a better involvement of citizens into decision-making processes.

Young leaders will meet with elected representatives of the municipalities of Strasbourg and Saverne in France as well as Kehl and Kappelrodeck in Germany. They will also participate in the World Forum for Democracy 2014 edition: “From Participation to Influence: Can Youth Revitalise Democracy?”.

The participants who include mayors and local councillors, leaders of NGOs and youth organisations, as well as political, civil society and media activists, are strongly engaged in social and political activities in different regions of Ukraine.

The study visit is a follow-up to a series of regional seminars organised in Ukraine in the framework of the Immediate Measures Package and the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine.
