Council of Europe Forum on future of film policy in Europe

Strasbourg, 09.09.2008 - “Shaping Policies for the Cinema of Tomorrow” will be the theme of the Council of Europe Film Policy Forum that will take place in Krakow, Poland, from 11 to 13 September 2008. The plenary sessions of the forum will be open to the press (11 September, 17.00, Palac pod Baranami, Rynek Glowny 27, Krakow).

It will gather leading experts on film policy, figures from the film world and key decision-makers from across Europe, to discuss how public support for cinema can be adapted to new developments.

At a time when globalisation represents a threat to diversity and when digital technologies are redefining film production, distribution and patterns of consumption, this initiative of the Council of Europe will allow a review of the effectiveness of film policies in promoting diversity, creativity, and raising awareness of key issues and concerns for European societies.

Hosted by the Polish Film Institute in association with the Polish Ministry of Culture and the City of Krakow, the forum is organised with the support of the ThinkTank on European Film and Film Policy based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

A press conference will be held on 12 September at 12.30 at the conference venue (Palac pod Baranami).
