European Public Prosecutors to meet in Saint Petersburg
Strasbourg, 26.06.2008 – The Prosecutors General from the 47 member states of the Council of Europe will meet on 2 and 3 July 2008 in Saint Petersburg (Russian Federation) to discuss the role of public prosecution in the protection of human rights and public interests outside the criminal law field.
The conference will be chaired by Yuri Chayka, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation. Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis and Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg will address the participants.
· The press is invited to attend the opening session from 9.00 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday 2 July (Konstantinovsky Palace, 3 Berezovaya Avenue, Strelna).
· A final press conference is scheduled on Thursday 3 July at 11.45 am (Troyanski Hall).
