Council of Europe Conference in Istanbul: “Prevention of terrorism: prevention tools, legal instruments and their implementation”

Dates: 16 – 17 December 2010

Place: Conrad Hotel, Istanbul (Turkey)

Organised by the Council of Europe in the framework of the Turkish Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers (see press release of 10 November).

Description: The Conference will bring together national and international experts and will offer participants insight into better prevention of terrorism by addressing issues relating to its changing nature, the incitement and recruitment for terrorism and the prevention of its financing. Also intended as a discussion-oriented forum for exchanging information, experiences, ideas, and innovative approaches, the Conference will bring together around 150 experts from member and observer states of the Council of Europe as well as from other international organisations.

The Conference will be opened by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr Thorbjørn Jagland, and by the Minister of Interior of Turkey, Mr Beşir Atalay.

A press conference by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe and the Minister of Interior of Turkey will take place at 14:45 before the opening session of the Conference at the Conrad Hotel (Junior Ballroom).

Journalists can follow the opening session of the Conference at the Ballroom (15:30-16:00).

Accreditation

Journalists should apply for accreditation by Monday 13 December at 13.00 at latest :

    - members of the national press should fill in the application form available at www.byegm.gov.tr and attach a copy of their press cards or a letter of authorisation from their media organisation and a copy of their official ID cards.

    - Resident members of the foreign press in Turkey should fill in the application form available at www.byegm.gov.tr and attach a copy of their press cards

    - Members of the foreign press coming from abroad should fill in the application form available at www.byegm.gov.tr and attach a copy of their press cards and a letter of authorisation from their media organisation and a copy of their official ID cards.

Journalists should collect their accreditation cards in person betwwen 14 and 15 December from the Press Desk to be set up at the Conrad Hotel upon presentation of a photo ID.
