Protecting children from sexual exploitation and abuse - International Conference

Date: 28 and 29 October 2009

Location: Warsaw (Poland) – Senate Hall of the University of Warsaw, Krakowskie Przedmieście Str. 26/28

Organised by The Council of Europe and the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw, in co-operation with the Information Office of the Council of Europe in Warsaw, within the framework of the Joint Project with the European Union on strengthening and protecting women’s and children’s rights in Ukraine (TRES Project).

Description: This conference aims at examining the existing tools on the international level to protect children in line with the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse (CETS No. 201). Education of children, effective protective measures and regulations concerning the criminalisation and prosecuting of sexual exploitation and abuse of children will be the leading issues of the conference. A plan of action based on the international experience will be undertaken to implement the Convention in Ukraine.

Representatives from the Ukrainian Ministry for Family, Youth and Sport, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of the Interior, the General Prosecutor’s Office, Non-Governmental Organisations and experts from Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Finland, Lithuania and Poland will attend the conference. This event will allow the Ukrainian authorities to meet with their Polish counterparts.

The conference is open to press.
