Europe on the Move: Council of Europe Cultural Routes during European Tourism Day 2010

Organisation: Council of Europe, in co-operation with the European Commission Directorate General of Enterprise and Industry, the European Institute of Cultural Routes and the European Association of Vie Francigene.

Description: European history, identity and heritage, narrated through trans-border thematic itineraries: the event, supported by the Vice-President of the European Commission, Antonio Tajani, will be mainly devoted to the promotion and valorisation of European citizenship, cultural and historical heritage.

CoE Key-note speaker: Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, Director General of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport.

Background: Council of Europe cultural routes programme was launched in 1987 to demonstrate how the heritage of the different countries of Europe constitute a common cultural heritage, enriched by local diversities and identities. Santiago de Compostela pilgrim route has been the first one awarded as thematic cultural route.
