On 9 October 2008, Mr Petter F. WILLE, Permanent Representative of Norway, proposed (cf. Appendix 1), in accordance with relevant provisions of the procedure for appointment to the posts of Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General and Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly having the rank of Deputy Secretary General (Article 1.b), the candidature of Mr Thorbjørn JAGLAND whose curriculum vitae appears in Appendix 2 to this document.

THORBJØRN JAGLAND
PRESIDENT OF THE NORWEGIAN PARLIAMENT (STORTING)

Thorbjørn Jagland is President of the Norwegian Parliament (Storting) since 2005 and Member of Parliament from Buskerud County since 1993

Mr. Jagland was born on 5 November 1950 in Drammen, Norway. He is married to Hanne Grotjord. They have two children.
