How can local development be promoted in a time of crisis?
Strasbourg, 18.05.2011 – The Committee on Economic Affairs and Development of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will hold a hearing on 20 May in Lamezia Terme (Italy) on “Input for local development: an innovative approach for crisis-stricken regions” in connection with the preparation of a report on the subject by Giuseppe Galati (Italy, EPP/CD).
Participants will include Raffaele Fitto, Italian Minister for Regional Development, Luigi Vitali, Chair of the Italian parliamentary delegation to PACE, local elected representatives and a representative of the Italian National Development Agency for Tourism and Labour. The committee is also due to adopt reports on the budgets and priorities of the Council of Europe for 2012-2013, the underground economy and youth unemployment.

The hearing, open to the press, will take place on Friday 20 May from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at the Town Hall of Lamezia Terme (Italy) in the “Giorgio Napolitano" Room.
