Workshop in the framework of the project: “Institutional support to the Communities Associations of Armenia”

On 19 February 2015, the Congress organised a workshop in Yerevan (Armenia) on the role of associations of local authorities in the framework of the project “Institutional support to the Communities Associations of Armenia” which brought together 45 members of Communities Association of Armenia (CAA), including mayors and members of the decision-making bodies of the CAA. They exchanged with peers from other European associations from Denmark, Finland, Georgia and Latvia and Congress members : Juliana Hoxha (SOC, Albania), Lotte Cedersjold (SOC, Denmark) and Andris Jaunsleinis (ILDG, Latvia) on means and necessary steps for the organisational development of the CAA so it can become a key stakeholder of local self-government reforms in Armenia.

Juliana Hoxha, Vice President of the Congress, reiterated the Congress’ will to support associations in their mission to serve local authorities’ interests, principle enshrined in the European Charter of Local Self-Governance.

Taron Margaryan, Mayor of Yerevan, welcomed the participants of the workshop to Yerevan, as a board member, and restated the importance of the project for the future of the Association.

Vache Terteryan, First Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations of the government of Armenia, voiced the government’ support to the project and to the development of the institutional capacities of CAA.
