Water management and local authorities: Congress contribution to the World Water Forum
[02/03/2009] On 3 March, the Congress will hold a debate on public water and sewer services to finalise its contribution to the 5th World Water Forum, which is taking place in Istanbul on 15-16 March 2009. Hasan Zuhuri Sarikaya (Turkey), Co-Chair of the World Water Forum, will take part in the debate. The key role of local authorities in water management was recognised for the first time at the 4th World Water Forum in Mexico City in March 2006, and the Congress calls for their active participation at the Forum in Istanbul and for a culture of responsibility which reasserts their role in managing water and sewer services.
